The Treasurer receives payment of all current taxes, which includes all special assessments such as water, sewer, street and sidewalks. These taxes are posted to the computer, which keeps a visual record of all payments, by parcel, date, amount, and who paid the taxes. These payments are then distributed to the proper taxing districts and payments are made as follows: seven payments to the School Districts, and three payments to the balance of taxing districts for the year.
The Treasurer is custodian of the County Finances and cosigns all checks which are issued to pay lawful warrants for county purposes. The Treasurer also serves as Investments Officer for the County, which covers all money used for county business. Investments are made in Money Markets, Certificates of Deposits and Bonds. The Treasurer works with the local banks and outside brokers to do the investing. The responsibility of the Treasurer is to mail the Truth and Taxation statements of the purposed taxes and then the statements of the actual taxes due. The office is also staffed with one Deputy Treasurer.
