The County Surveyor's Office is responsible for:

  • The restoration and perpetuation of Public Land Survey corners within the county in order to protect the public’s interest in their property. These corners were originally set between 1852 and 1854.
  • Making modern measurements between PLS monuments. These measurements aid in the preparation of accurate countywide parcel mapping.
  • Approve all subdivision plats, registered land surveys, and CIC plats for compliance with Minnesota statute, local ordinance, and mathematical accuracy. County Ordinance #4, MN Sta. 389.09
  • Prepares Right-Of-Way plats for County highway acquisition
  • Performs land survey services for County held properties
  • Preserves PLS corners in county roads. MN Sta. 160.15
  • Offers consultation to other County offices and the public on legal description, survey, and development matters
  • Files records of past and present surveys, making them available for inspection by any person at reasonable times. It is the responsibility of private land surveyors to file surveys within 30 days of completion. County Ordinance #3, MN Sta. 389.08
  • Inventory horizontal control monuments and elevation bench marks
